Social Media Surgery call for volunteers!
If you’re reading this you’ve probably found it from Twitter or Facebook or The Lichfield Blog or some other form of social media. That’s great, that means you’re engaged!
But there are millions of people who aren’t engaged who’s lives could potentially be improved, even if only in a small way, by the use of social media.
That’s why we’ve started the Lichfield Social Media Surgery. It was inspired by the Birmingham Social Media Surgery which regularly helps charities and non-profits to ‘get’ social media and to help them do something practical in support of their organisation.
The best thing is that if you’re reading this post you’re probably fully qualified to help out as a volunteer. You don’t have to be a whizz at any social media sites, you just have to know how to use them. A lot of the time the people you’ll be hoping won’t have the first clue. In fact, there’s a good chance you’ll learn something as well (unless you really are a whizz!)
So, if you have a spare half an hour or even ten minutes please pop along to George IV on Bore Street, Lichfield (next to Guildhall) on Tuesday, 15th September from 5:30pm and give us a hand spreading the social media love.
Thanks!

Lichfield’s first Social Media Café and Surgery!
It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally happy to announce that Lichfield is to host it’s first ever Social Media Café and Social Media Surgery!
Social Media Café
For those who don’t know or have never been to one, a Social Media Café is where people interested in social media get together to talk about it. These cafés take place all over the country and can take different forms. For example, some have panelists with a pre-determined topic of discussion and some are more like networking events where everyone stands around chatting and getting to know one another.
We’ve not decided on a format yet so in the true spirit of social media, we’re going to crowd source it. There is a survey which asks three questions, including;
- What format would you prefer for the Lichfield Social Media Café?
- If you would like a topic-based event, what would you like to discuss?
It’s a great opportunity to help each other understand how better to use and understand social media and to identify how others could use it to their advantage.
The café will take place on Tuesday, 15th September from 3pm onwards at George IV pub on Bore Street and you can register your interest either by signing up through our Event Brite page or through the Facebook event.
If you’re a local business we’re also looking for someone to sponsor the event to pay for a few drinks and maybe some nibbles to help the afternoon go down nicely. If you’re interested, please contact me (Philip John) by tweet, e-mail or phone on 07886 335 896.
Don’t forget to track our tweets using the #lsmc hashtag!
Social Media Surgery
From around 5:30pm we will also be hosting the first of many social media surgeries for Lichfield. A social media surgery is where a bunch of social media folks get together to volunteer their time to help people from non-profits and charities to figure out how they can use social media to achieve the aims of their organisation.
It’s going to be quite a special first time because we’ve got Talk About Local coming up to help out and run one of their blogging sessions, which I’m very excited about! So if you know any non-profit organisations or charities who might like to figure out some of this social media lark, invite them along!
There’s no registration for this one, just turn up at George IV between 5:30pm and 8:00pm and we’ll do what we can to help you out. We’d obviously love to have all the social media know-how we can as well so if you want to offer your skills for a good cause, pop along!
